LAKE FOREST LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
Tuesday, February 8, 2011
Present: President Young; Trustees Champ, Gibson, Hull, Miserendino, and Pierson; Cynthia Stamelos, Youth Liaison; Administrative Librarian Grabbe; and Administrative Assistant Grasmick.
Absent: Trustees Barnett, Dettling, and Westropp.
President Young called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
There were no changes or corrections to the minutes of the January 11 meeting.
Trustee Gibson moved to accept the minutes of January 11, 2011. Trustee Miserendino seconded. Motion carried.
Maintenance: We’ve spent many hours on snow removal since last week’s storm. The library closed at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2nd, stayed closed all day on Wednesday and opened at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Personnel: Robin Lepkowski, Administrative Services Clerical Assistant, is leaving the library. Ling Lee, part-time Circulation Assistant, will be moving into the fulltime Administrative Services Clerical Assistant position.
Services: The MediaBank DVD dispenser is getting closer and closer to a public debut. We continue cataloging items and modifying the web reservation system.
Miscellaneous: The December financials and statistics were distributed.
Services : No report.
Long Range Planning : No report.
Finance : A meeting was held prior to tonight’s board meeting to discuss the FY12 budget. The proposed budget will be mailed in the March board packet for discussion and vote at the March meeting.
NSLS : The Illinois Library Association is sponsoring a President's Day Library Legislative Breakfast on Monday, February 21, from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. The Breakfast will be held at the Arboretum Club, located at 401 Half Day Road in Buffalo Grove. The cost is $15 per person. Trustees interested in attending should notify Mrs. Grabbe.
The boards of the five northern/central library systems (Alliance, DuPage, Metropolitan, North Suburban, and Prairie Area) voted in January to merge into one system effective July 1, 2011.
Trustees can submit their suggestions for naming the new system.
The Illinois Library Association (ILA) announced in its February 3 newsletter that it had received a $100,000 federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the state library to research the most effective statewide service models for cooperative library services. Study results are expected by January 2012.
Friends : A gift of silver trays and serving pieces was received. An appraisal will be sought before a decision is made on what to do with the items. Book donations are down due to winter weather, but are still better than expected.
Old Business : None.
New Business: The caucus is in the process of selecting for new board positions.
The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011.
Opportunity for the public to address the Board: No one addressed the Board.
Trustee Hull moved that the meeting be adjourned; Trustee Gibson seconded. Motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
