Details

Learn about Francis O’Neill and his extensive collection of Irish traditional music. Born in Ireland in 1848, he emigrated to the U.S. and was Chicago’s Chief of Police from 1901 to 1905. Upon retirement, he focused his energies on publishing the music he had collected. Listen to samples of Gaelic melodies as we discover the role Chicago played in Chief O’Neill’s collection.
