MEETING MINUTES
Tuesday, February 12, 2008
MINUTES
Present: Trustees Barnett, Plandowski, Thornburgh, and Young; Stefanie Petropoulos, Youth Liaison; Administrative Librarian Grabbe; and Administrative Assistant Grasmick.
Absent: President Duncan; Trustees Garrett, Hull, Miserendino and Pierson.
Vice-President Thornburgh called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Librarian's Report:
Maintenance: Repeated snowstorms have caused the parking lot to become extremely icy and slick. There were several accidents in the lot on Saturday. The police were called and they told us to close the lot. A formal complaint was lodged with the City (the Parks Department is responsible for clearing the lot). The City dispatched a special crew to work on the lot on Saturday night.
Services: The January Breakfast with Books program was again very successful and popular.
Miscellaneous: The December Year-to-Date report is on target. The building maintenance category is a bit high, but it is leveling off.
Trustee Barnett asked for a clarification on how reserve amounts are determined. Mrs. Grabbe explained that the City strongly recommends that all boards maintain reserves equal to 15% of their operating budget.
Committee Reports:
Services: No report.
Long Range Planning: No report.
Finance: A meeting was held prior to tonight’s board meeting to discuss the FY09 budget. The committee recommends acceptance of the proposed budget. Voting on the proposed budget will take place at the March meeting.
NSLS: The 2008 NSLS Legislative Breakfast is scheduled for Monday, February 18 th. Trustees Plandowski and Young will attend.
Illinois Library Day is Thursday, April 10, 2008 in Springfield.
One program of interest is Joan Frye Williams on 10 Attributes of Highly Effective Libraries from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at NSLS.
Friends: A board meeting was held on February 2. The special projects committee has not met yet. The next board meeting is scheduled for March 15.
They will have another Children’s Book Sale in June and will expand the sale from 2 days to 3 days. It will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on June 5 and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on June 6 and 7.
A program with Megan Wells, Leanings, True Tales of Brave Hearts, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on March 13, 2008 at Gorton Community Center.
The Annual Spring Meeting with Barbara Rinella is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 rd.
Old Business : None.
New Business: The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.
Opportunity for the public to address the Board: no one addressed the Board.
Trustee Plandowski moved that the meeting be adjourned; Trustee Young seconded. Motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
