LAKE FOREST LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
MEETING
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
MINUTES
Present: President Thornburgh; Trustees Barnett, Dettling, Garrett, Hull, Miserendino, Pierson, Westropp, and Young; Administrative Librarian Grabbe; Administrative Assistant Grasmick.
Absent: None.
President Thornburgh called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
There were no changes or corrections to the minutes of the May 12 meeting. The minutes were approved as mailed.
Librarian's Report:
Maintenance: The parking lot resurfacing project is scheduled to begin on August 3, 2009. Kaplan Paving had the low bid of $83,486 and was recommended by Peter Baker & Son Co. Inc. The lot will be closed for approximately two weeks.
The murals have all been installed in the Children’s library.
The new bike rack, which spells out “BOOKS”, has been installed on the east side. A story and photo was featured in the Gazebo News.
Services: All three summer reading programs are ongoing.
The June 6 open house celebration for the Children’s library was well-attended.
Miscellaneous: The April statistics were distributed. Records were set for Children’s Circ, Total Circ, and AV Circ.
Committee Reports:
Services: No report.
Long Range Planning: The committee met prior to tonight’s board meeting to discuss library service responses. The library needs to remain flexible to meet the technological changes ahead. More work is needed in this area and the committee will address this in future meetings.
Finance: No report.
NSLS: No report.
Friends: A board meeting is scheduled for June 13. We should have the Children’s book sale totals by then. The sale was very busy on Thursday, but tapered off on Friday and Saturday.
Old Business : None.
New Business : A vote to approve the slate of officers for FY09/10 presented at the May 12, 2009 meeting was requested.
Trustee Garrett moved to accept the FY09/10 slate of officers. Trustee Westropp seconded. Motion carried.
The use of Per Capita Grant funds was discussed.
Trustee Young moved to spend Per Capita Grant funds on electronic resources. Trustee Hull seconded. Motion carried.
The board reviewed Illinois Library Laws and Rules, January 2008, (Chapter 75, Libraries), Act 5, Illinois Local Library Act.
Trustee Miserendino asked about the sale of personal property. Mrs. Grabbe stated that the library has never done that. We tend to give items away. Recently some office chairs went to the City and Children’s furniture went to the Highwood Public Library.
A copy of the Library Records Confidentiality Act was distributed. Registration and circulation records may only be released to a law enforcement officer when required to do so under a court order.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 14, 2009.
Opportunity for the public to address the Board: no one addressed the Board.
Trustee Dettling moved and Trustee Pierson seconded a motion to adjourn. Motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
