Squash Newsletter Update May 2008 Register Now: Summer Squash Camps (6/9-14 and 8/18-22)
Lake Forest Squash is offering two weeks of junior squash camps this summer. The weeks are June 9-14 and August 18-22: Elite juniors practice from 9:00 am to noon; intermediate players from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm; and beginners from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The August camp week is a mandatory pre-season warm up for the high school team.
New Challenge Ladder
A squash challenge ladder has been established and posted on the bulletin board outside of court two. 170 players are divided into adult, junior, high school team and women’s groupings. Players may challenge up to five positions on the ladder. Contact your opponent then book a court. E-mail me any results that effect ladder positions within 24 hours of the match. Initial ranking is subject to change. Good luck to all players!
Public Schools Program Presentations
Coach Kim was a guest speaker at Cherokee, Sheridan and Deerpath 5th and 6th grades this month and made a presentation/demonstration to all students during their Monday wellness classes. Over 1200 students total watched professional match video, checked out the required equipment for play and tried hitting junior balls with squash racquets against the gym walls at the various schools. Coach Kim will visit Everett this month.
Many children have recently stopped by the courts after school to further try the game while others are overheard in the hallways pointing to the courts and telling their friends, “That’s squash”. The purpose of the visits is to make public school students aware of our game as one of many ‘sports for life’.
