MEETING
Tuesday, November 13, 2007

MINUTES

Present: President Duncan; Trustees Barnett, Garrett, Hull, Miserendino, Pierson, Thornburgh, and Young; Youth Liaison, Stefanie Petropoulos; Administrative Librarian Grabbe; and Administrative Assistant Grasmick.

Absent: Trustee Plandowski.

President Duncan called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

In the absence of Secretary Plandowski, Trustee Young volunteered to serve as Secretary Pro Tem.

There were no changes or corrections to the minutes of the October 9 meeting. The minutes were approved as mailed.

Administrative Librarian's Report:

Services: E-mail notification is now available for overdue notices, due date reminders, and pickup notification for reserved materials. Instruction fliers are available at the circulation desks.

Miscellaneous: September statistics, September and October year-to-date financials, and the Friends wish list were distributed.

Trustee Barnett asked where investment income is listed on the YTD financials. Mrs. Grabbe stated that is part of the Non Tax Based entry which also includes library-generated income such as fees and fines.

Trustee Barnett asked how the library is related to the State of Illinois and the City of Lake Forest. Mrs. Grabbe stated that the State makes library law and that is the only relationship. The library is independent of the City, but is not a taxing body. The library has fiduciary responsibility. An administrative fee is paid to the City for financial services.

Committee Reports:

Services: No report.

Long Range Plan: No report.

Finance: No report.

NSLS: Upcoming trustee training courses include Unlocking the Puzzle of Taxes, Tax Caps, Levies, and Referenda and Advocating for your Library.

The 2008 NSLS Legislative Breakfast is scheduled for Monday, February 18, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Arboretum Club, 401 Half Day Rd. (Rt. 22), Buffalo Grove. Mrs. Grabbe will be out of town on that day.

Friends: No report.

Old Business: None.

New Business: The Medica sculpture dedication is scheduled for Friday, November 23, 2007 at 3:00 p.m.

President Duncan polled trustees to see if there would be a quorum for the December meeting. The December meeting was cancelled by unanimous decision.

The next Board meeting will be Tuesday, January 8, 2008.

Mrs. Grabbe distributed holiday gifts, purchased from Lambs Farm, to board members.

Opportunity for the public to address the Board: No one addressed the Board.

Trustee Barnett moved and Trustee Garrett seconded a motion to adjourn. Motion carried.
