Personnel: The library will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009 for staff in-service training.
Services : A bookmark for Homework Help ® IL was distributed. This new service connects students in grades K-12 and adult learners with online tutors for live, one-to-one help in math, science, English, and social studies. Tutors are available from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week at http://www.homeworkhelpil.com/.
The library now has a blog and a Twitter account. Links to both services are located at the top of the main library page at www.lakeforestlibrary.org.

The July 2009 Year-to-Date was distributed.
Draft II of FY2009 Year-to-Date was distributed.
The library’s annual report was distributed.
Trustee Gibson asked about the book budget being at 30%. Mrs. Grabbe stated that books, periodicals, and other materials are ordered all year long. Some subscriptions are due early in the fiscal year and others later. Computers are leased and that expense is reflected in O.O.E.
The book sale is next week and volunteers are needed. The move to the recreation center will allow the sale to stay open until 8:00 p.m. on a couple of nights. CROYA will have a bake sale and sell coffee.
Committee Reports:
Services: No report. The committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. prior to the October 13 board meeting.
Long Range Planning: No report.
Finance: No report. The committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on November 10, 2009.
NSLS: The system is taking a look at how to deal with budget cuts. The materials delivery service is protected. The Per Capita Grant is being cut by 16%—is approximately a $4,000.00 budget reduction for our library.
Friends: The book sale is next week. All trustees are invited to the reception from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The presale will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Old Business: None.
New Business : Trustee Pierson recommended approval of the 2010-2012 Long Range Plan. Trustee Gibson seconded. Motion carried.
Mrs. Grabbe complimented the Long Range Planning Committee on a job well-done.
Trustee Gibson asked about our Community Cornerstones archive. These are digitized files of about 300 Lake Forest properties during the 1890-1935 time frame. These include many public buildings as well as some private residences such as Villa Turicum, Ragdale, Fairlawn, Havenwood, the Centaurs, and Mayflower Place. Files include photographs, reports, clippings, and real estate listings. This database is available for viewing on any of the adult patron workstations.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
Opportunity for the public to address the Board: no one addressed the board.
Trustee Gibson moved, and Trustee Miserendino seconded, a motion to adjourn. Motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:57 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Pierson
