Happy Pi Day!
It's Pi Day! We're honoring everyone's favorite mathematical ratio and irrational number with a few good books below.
We can thank physicist Larry Shaw for giving us the perfect excuse to eat lots of pie today. Shaw founded Pi Day in 1988 while working at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, the museum (founded by physicist Frank Oppenheimer) that promoted STEAM learning before it was a thing. Shameless plug: Upcoming STEAM events at the Library.
We bet you weren't expecting to hear about so many physicists on a day dedicated to geometry. While we're at it, did you know that today is also another physicist's birthday? Find out who below! And finally, on a different note, we bid farewell to physicist Stephen Hawking, who passed on earlier today at the age of 76.
