Program Description

Details

In 1998, Life magazine called the Seneca Ladies Literary Society the oldest Reading Club in America. Established in 1855 in Seneca Township, in McHenry County, Illinois, the Society is still going strong today.

Members of the Society will talk about the group's unique history; its connection to the preservation of Mt. Vernon, George Washington's estate; what distinguishes it from other "reading clubs"; and why it has lasted so long.
