How to Book an Appointment with a Media Lab Assistant

  • Visit the Book an Appointment form, select Media Lab Session, and complete and submit the form.
  • After you submit the form, be sure to check your email inbox (or spam folder) for your reservation confirmation. Please keep in mind that all appointments are subject to cancellation. If a cancellation occurs staff will attempt to reschedule in a timely manner. If you made a reservation and did not receive a confirmation email, please send a message to the Media Lab.

The Media Lab provides patrons with the assistance, skills, and tools they need to create and edit a variety of media. You can:

  • TAKE CLASSES on a variety of creative tech topics
  • DIGITIZE slides, photos, and VHS tapes
  • EDIT photos with Photoshop and videos with iMovie or Final Cut Pro
  • CREATE cards, vinyl stickers, jewelry, and more with the Silhouette Vinyl Cutter
  • DESIGN flyers, brochures, websites, and graphics with Adobe Creative Suite programs
  • COMPOSE music with our 49-Key MIDI Keyboard and edit with GarageBand or Logic Pro
  • EXPLORE new worlds with the Oculus Quest Virtual Reality Headsets

Borrow Technology Equipment

Media Lab policies

  1. The Media Lab is open to all Lake Forest Library cardholders aged 13 and older in groups of five or fewer. If your library card is expired or blocked, you must resolve the issues before using the Media Lab.
  2. Patrons aged 13–18 can use the Media Lab only when an assistant or librarian is available.
  3. You can make a Media Lab appointment online.
  4. Appointments can last up to 90 minutes. Your reservation will be held for 15 minutes before being given up. Extensions are possible if no one else is waiting.
  5. Patrons are limited to one 90-min appointment per week.
  6. No food or drinks are allowed in the Media Lab.
  7. The Media Lab is reserved specifically for the use of the hardware and software available only in the space. Patrons may use public computers for all other purposes. The Media Lab is not to be used as an office space or telephone room.
  8. Patrons who know how to use equipment can use the Media Lab in off-hours on a drop-in basis. Patrons must sign a waiver to use the space unattended and cannot expect one-on-one assistance during this time.
  9. Patrons may not use the Canon Rebel Camera Kits or the Oculus Quest VR Headsets unattended.
  10. All patrons participating in the use of virtual reality must sign a waiver. Participants under the age of 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.
