Program Description

Details

Join us for a student-led panel discussion on the lures, impacts, and solutions for fast fashion. The fashion industry is the second-biggest consumer of water and is responsible for more global carbon emissions than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. "Fast Fashion" refers to cheaply produced and cheaply priced garments that copy the latest catwalk styles and get pumped quickly through stores in order to maximize on current trends.

The discussion is inspired by Maxine Bédat’s groundbreaking book, "Unraveled: The Life and Death of a Garment." The book chronicles of the birth and death of a pair of jeans, and exposes the fractures in our global supply chains, and our relationships to each other, ourselves, and the planet.

This event is presented in partnership with Lake Forest Library, Lake Forest High School, and Lake Forest Open Lands.

** This event was originally scheduled to be at LFHS and is now at Lake Forest Library in the Kasian Room **

This event is part of Read Between the Ravines, the joint nonfiction reading program from Lake Forest Library and Lake Bluff Public Library. To learn more, visit our Read Between page.
