Socially Distanced Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for ways to help your community but also want to practice social distancing? Here is a list of volunteer opportunities in Lake County that require little to no in-person contact:

  1. Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods is hosting a Cloth Mask Drive and is accepting sewn masks from community members.  They initially provided 2000 sewing kits for people to use, but they ran out quickly.  They are still accepting donated masks with your own materials, and you can drop them off between sunrise and dusk on the Brushwood Center front porch: 21850 North Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods, IL.

  2. Lake Forest Library is accepting positive notes of encouragement for residents and staff at Lake Forest Place. Please scan/email your artwork, letters, or cards to reference@lakeforestlibrary.org

  3. Become a mentor with Table Wisdom at https://www.table-wisdom.org/join-us.  Have virtual conversations and help your student develop a better command of the English language. Share your life experience and American culture and learn about your student’s background and culture.

  4. PostNet Lake Forest is accepting Get Well cards for patients in isolation at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital. Draw/color a card no larger than 8.5x11 in. and drop it off at PostNet (825 S. Waukegan Rd, LF (same shopping center as Sunset Foods)) or take a picture/scan your card and send it to Graphics.IL106@PostNet.com, and PostNet will print and laminate the card for you.

  5. Lake County Government created an interactive map of all the food pantries in Lake County, IL. Hover over a location on the map to view the site’s address, phone number, and other helpful information: https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=ef0a7c562e1848ea93acb11613ce8572

  6. Drop off artwork on the porch at 44 West Center, Lake Bluff, IL 60044, and they will be delivered to healthcare workers in three ICUs at Vista Medical Center in Waukegan.  The artwork does not need to be laminated.
