Program Description

Details

Dr. Kenvi Phillips, inaugural director of the Obama Presidential Library, will discuss the mission of the Obama Presidential Center as a vibrant community hub, economic anchor, and beacon of democracy. This program offers a unique opportunity to learn how presidential history is preserved, accessed, and shared, and how these records deepen our understanding of recent history and democratic values. The Barack Obama Presidential Center is a museum, library, and educational campus dedicated to the legacy of President Barack Obama. Located in Jackson Park on Chicago’s South Side, the Center will feature community gathering spaces, a Chicago Public Library branch, and the headquarters of the Obama Foundation. The Center is expected to open in June 2026, with the presidential library developed as the first fully digital presidential library in partnership with the National Archives (NARA). This program is in collaboration with the Algonquin Area Public Library.
