Details
At nine feet tall, this impressive portrait of the sixteenth president has been praised by those who knew him as more lifelike than any other. Exhibited at the US Capitol, the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, and the Union League Club in New York, among other important places, this portrait eventually found a home in the Hartley Dodge Memorial in Madison, NJ. Mallory will share her first-hand account of researching this painting and the stories she uncovered as she leads the audience through this painting’s fascinating provenance. This portrait is currently on loan to the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
