March 8, 2023 – LAKE FOREST Ill – On August 10, 2022, the Lake Forest Library Board approved prioritizing repair and restoration work on the dome and interior rotunda as a first step of the Capital Improvement Project to enhance and revitalize the Library. Work on the dome begins in March 2023, and Lake Foresters can expect to see scaffolding as soon as March 9. Scaffolding and construction are expected to have minimal impact on library services and building access. For updates, please stay tuned to www.lakeforestlibrary.org/dome.

The Library Board Building Committee has monitored the dome work process to date. The Building Committee was formed in July 2021 and is led by Board Trustees Bryan Bertola and Heather Strong. Bertola and Strong bring years of experience as architects that has proven valuable throughout the planning process. Milestones have included:

  • December 2021: The Lake Forest Library Board approved a Professional Services Agreement with Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) for investigation and design services for the repair and restoration of the dome.
  • May 2022: The City of Lake Forest Historic Preservation Commission issued a Certificate of Appropriateness for the dome solution presented by WJE.
  • November 2022: The Library Board agreed to follow WJE’s recommendation and enter into a contract with L. Marshall Roofing & Sheet Metal to complete the dome repair project.

Updates on the Library dome work will be posted at www.lakeforestlibrary.org/dome.
