The First Wives Club

Three middle-aged women are reunited by the suicide of a mutual friend. They haven't seen each other in years but now find they have something in common: Like their late friend, they are each going through a divorce and feeling depressed. Determined to escape her dire fate, they form a club. The club is one part revenge against the husbands who are dumping them, one part self-help group, and one part charitable organization intended to help and empower other women. They affirm for themselves the value they contributed to the success of their respective husbands and set about taking control of their own lives. The movie is both fun and eye-opening. It is a hilarious comedy with a serious theme of modern gender politics.
